Introduction

The Mica Mine Tops Route is a challenging route within the rugged backcountry environment of South Westland.

Walking and tramping

Seasonal restrictions

In winter, snow may affect access to, and along, the tops to the hut.

The tracks are located in a popular Haast Roar hunting area, so may be particularly busy throughout the Roar period (mid-March to mid-April).

Dog access

Dogs with a DOC permit only. Contact closest DOC office to get a permit. Other pets on conservation land rules.
