Description

Situated in a remote area of Rakiura National Park on Stewart Island/Rakiura, this activity involves maintaining historical sites associated with early farming on Rakiura. 
Tasks will include vegetation clearance around the historic woolshed and homestead. Minor repairs and maintenance of buildings, application of preservative to old relics, cleaning, and replacing piles. There is often the opportunity to explore the Mason Bay area after work hours, weather conditions permitting.

What to expect

Fitness/skill level

Medium to high fitness level. The work being undertaken is physical, especially when clearing vegetation off tracks and historic sites. Volunteers must be comfortable undertaking moderate physical activity for up to 8 hours a day. It is hard work but rewarding, in the beautiful setting of Mason Bay.

The Island Hill historic homestead.

Pickup/drop-off location and times

This will be confirmed with the sucessful applicants.

Contribution towards food and transport

There is no charge for this activity. However, volunteers will need to make their own travel arrangements to and from Bluff.
