Description

This is an amazing new opportunity to explore remains from the gold mining days at Golden Point Historic Reserve, home to the only complete stamper battery in Aotearoa New Zealand that is still in working order.

Volunteers will help with the repair and maintenance of this significant historic site, with tasks including painting, vegetation control and minor repairs. 

What to expect

Fitness/skill level

Medium fitness level. Volunteers must be capable of climbing a ladder. Painting, building and scrub bar experience would also be useful on this trip.

Accommodation

Dorm-style bunkrooms at the Macraes Flat field base. Hot showers, electricity and kitchen facilities are available, as well as limited cell phone coverage.

Pickup/drop-off location and times

Meet at the Macraes Flat field base, 497 Redbank Road, RD3, Macraes Flat at 9.00 am on Monday 4 November. Volunteers will be returned to the same location at 4.00 pm on Friday 8 November.

Contribution towards food and transport

$150 per person.
